The Egyptian FA does not intend to apologize to Algeria for failing to prevent their team's bus from being stoned ahead of a World Cup qualifier in November, chairman Samir Zaher said on Friday.

Two Algerian players sustained facial injuries after some Egyptian fans hurled stones at their bus before a meeting between the North African rivals at Cairo Stadium on November 14 last year.

Egypt defeated Algeria 2-0 to force a playoff in Sudan four days later for a place at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Some unfortunate incidents were to follow, with Egyptian fans accusing Algerian supporters of assaulting them after the game which Algeria won 1-0 to reach the football's most prestigious event.

World governing body FIFA is reviewing the incidents related to the first game between Egypt and Algeria in Cairo and is expected to make a decision over the matter next month.

"I rejected the idea of apologizing to Algeria," Zaher, who flew to Switzerland to attend a FIFA hearing, told FilGoal.com.

Compromise?

"The Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam is mediating in the dispute but (Algerian Football Federation president) Mohammed Raouraoua insists that we should apologize to them.

"We can apologize in only one case, if Raouraoua also apologized for what happened in Sudan after the playoff game."

Local Reports said African champions Egypt are likely to be sanctioned and suggested that FIFA might impose points deduction on the Pharaohs in the next World Cup qualifiers.

But Zaher said that nothing is clear now with regards to FIFA's decisions.

"No one knows what FIFA will do next. However, we asked them to take the Sudan incidents into consideration, and I knew that they will do," he added.

"We can eventually reach a compromise with Algeria without any kind of apologizes."

Did they ever apologize for what happened in 2001?

If you ask me, both Rourouwa & Zaher should have nothing to do with this matter anymore, as it's become way too personal for them & their inflated egos. If giving a one-sentence apology will prevent sanctions being imposed on Egypt for the next qualifiers, then Zaher should do what a real official should do & play politics. They lost the political battle in November 2009 when the Cairo incident made world headlines, yet no one outside Egypt thought that what happened in Sudan was bad.

I wonder what you guys will think if/when Egypt has to play its first 1-3 home games in empty stadiums. We all know how much the team needs the Egytptian crowds during qualifiers, & this will drastically hurt the team if it happens.

Of course I don't want to apologize anymore than anyone else here. But this is now a political matter, not just a problem between guys, 2 FA's, or 2 country's. Just think of this now as a matter between Egypt & FIFA.

Another strange thing is why it took SO LONG to see the crowd trouble in Annaba & bus attack video in Algeria in 2001. Not a single Egyptian could think to get this out there the same night as the bus attack in Cairo so that neutrals would see the whole story, & not only the photos & video shot by Canal+?

So FIFA havent closed the book on this issue yet? They're gonna make a decision 5-months later? Why would they sanction the EFA when they had nothing to do with 2-3 Egyptian idiots who threw the stones at the Algerian bus? This is more of a security/policing matter.

Why would they sanction the Algerian association about their unruly fans when it was Sudan that hosted the match and Sudanese authorities were responsible for security.

Both Zaher and Rourouwa are idiots anyways who are trying to make themselves look good to their people by acting stubborn.

Forget about Algeria for a second...If we have a child like Zaher running the EFA then how can we expect our NT/league to improve under his leadership? Think about it...Algeria's bus was stoned first in November and yet Zaher denies that the incident happened and does not apologize. Algeria's fans then attack Egyptian fans 4-days later and Zaher now says "I wont apologize until Raorouwa apologizes first", even though that we were the first ones to make the mistake? Where is the logic?

I'm not saying Zaher must apologize (I think he should though) but where is the common sense here? It's like you punch someone first, they punch you back, and then you ask them to apologize <_<

Anyways, the important lesson for us from all this is that we need to improve our security and ensure that all visiting teams/fans are protected. We made a small mistake and it may hurt us big time. This story was published throughout the world (even here in Canada where they dont care about soccer) and it left a sour taste in many soccer fans' mouths. It also made us look very bad in front of FIFA. We couldn't protect the Algerian bus during a 2 minute drive from the airport to the hotel! How pathetic is that? Now imagine if FIFA/CAF are considering Egypt as a host for a FIFA tournament or the ACN. What happens when the issue of Egyptian security comes up? "These guys couldnt protect a bus for 2 minutes...how are they gonna protect teams for 3-4 weeks?"

I'm not sure how the EFA is connected to the security matter, but I guess the only authority FIFA can sanction is the EFA not the Egyptian police for example! There were at least tens of people at the airport who ran after the Algerian bus and stoned it - not only that but after the match some Algerian supporters were hurt as well.

Inspiring pictures by the way, impressive collective hate speech and quality moderating as always (oh wait, the moderator is actually part of the action too!).

Maybe this could help:

I have to respectfully disagree.
If we made a mistake and admitted it, then..... We have to apologize for what we did no matter what the other party did to us!

Besides, Samir Zaher and the others need to be taken to court for deliberate public misleading!

This is what I believe, bearing in mind the opponents were not angels as well! I just care about our behaviour!

How come after four months of lying to the public, someone comes up with a different truth of commiting an assault and is not expected to take the responsibility for that just because the opponents are not worth the apology!!!

What's the difference between an empty Cairo Stadium and one packed to the rafters with college girls, hostile security taking your seats, spoiled rich-kid brats with an eye for the McDonald branche in the concources only, and corporate first category nono's who couldn't tell the difference between off-side and a throw-in?

Disney Land.

Dream on with your so-called vociferous support.
