ACCRA (AFP) - Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was on Thursday named African Footballer of the Year for 2009, the second time the Ivory Coast international has won the award.

Drogba pushed Inter Milan and Cameroon skipper Samuel Eto'o into second place in the vote amongst national team coaches from Confederation of African Football (CAF) member-nations.

Drogba also won in 2006, again ahead of Eto'o, but was denied the continent's top individual prize in 2007 when he failed to attend the awards ceremony in Togo.

Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien was third.

TP Mazembe of DR Congo, who clinched the CAF Champions League for the first time in 49 years, were named the best club ahead of Nigeria's Heartland and CAF Confederation winners Stade Malien of Mali.

Mazembe skipper Tresor Mputu Mabi picked up the award for best African player based on the continent.

Sellas Tetteh was voted best coach after he led Ghana to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in September, while Ghana striker Dominic Adiyiah was African Young Footballer of the Year following his goals in the tournament in Egypt.

Algeria were adjudged the best national team after they upset African champions and bitter rivals Egypt to qualify for the World Cup.

Someone tell me this is a joke??

What is the problem, they got it because they managed to qualify in expense of african champions.
It was in 2009, 2009 is past.

alaf mabrook lil gazair. this recognized achievement and a well deserved accolade, will definitely be a morale booster for team Algeria, before the important world cup competition.

You went on a full rampage against the Egyptians in Sudan by sending your criminals to the game

You people do not deserve to play the beautiful game

Your disciplinary performance in the semi final in 2010 has shamed Africa!!
If you plan to play like this in the world cup. then don't expect to go anywhere!

What is stupid, I'll tell you what is stupid!

What is stupid is that you people still believe you are the better team!!!!! do we need to give you another 4 goal kicking

and maybe this time, you will have 5 players sent off not 3

Best team in Africa 2009...well done.

Now lets see what you do in 2010...oh thats right, I remember now; so far you've had your asses handed to you on a plate in the ACN wel buqeyyah ta2ti in the WC. Everyone knows that we didn't qualify because we slipped up, not because you're the best in Africa.

2006, 2008 and now 2010 ya habibi will go down in history and be documented forever. Your brief appearance at WC 2010 will only be remembered by you. Enjoy, we alf mabrouk!!!

Now run along back to that rock you crawled out from under ;)

Reminds me the grounds advanced by Saâdane in defeat against Egypt, which puts into question the referees! on this Samir Zaher played well the blow , do believing to 80 million people that El Baltagia is the cause of your defeat in Sudan Posted Image
It deserves our qualification to the WNC

Nowhere in the books it is stated that any football team should field eleven players from the start. In other words; it's not compulsory. I suggest Algeria fields eight players from the start; it would save you the blushes of having three desperado's sent off.

This award has been given by CAF. You know that organization which was behind Egypt's success in ACN!

And to that Zahiste, if Kodja is near from Sharm El Sheikh, Eddy Maillet should have an appartment in Algiers.
