People say we just concluded with a Golden Generation. I know right now we are mixing in our older players with our younger stars, finally!, but is it me or is the Golden Generation still here? I see us making a serious contention for 2014 in Brazil. I want to sing our national anthem on the world stage for once. :D

It all depends on our Olympic Team of Hany Ramzy!
This team has great individual potentials as we watched them in the junior WC in Egypt earlier this year. If Ramzy can build the team spirit so they tactically become a one unit away from individualism, then we can say we are safe. Otherwise, we would suffer some long time away from trophies.

We are only deep at AM and LB.

Look at our options:

AM: Aboutreika (for the next few years), Zidan, Shikabala, Geddo, Eid, Ahmed Shoukry...maybe Afroto in a few years

LB: Moawed and Abdel Shafy

We are unproven at almost every other position.

Strikers: Meteab, Zaky...no one else has really done anything...maybe Bogy in a few years.

CM: Abd Rabo, Ghaly (neither has performed that well in the ACN so far), Hommos???, Shawky???

RB: Fathi, Muhammadi (isnt really a RB)

CB: My biggest concern. We need to find 2 full time CBs very soon.

GK: We need to give some of our keepers a chance to replace El Hadary.

I know that many of us expected a complete over-haul of the line-up after this ACN but some of our veterans have shown that they can still play (El-Hadary, Gomaa and Ahmed Hassan). I'd still like to phase these guys out ASAP because surely we cant count on these guys beyond the 2012 ACN.

So it seems like we can make up for our lack of depth at the striker position with our depth at the AM position. We are fine at LB and our RBs are good enough. However, we appear to be weak at CM and CB...4 positions that are key to any team's success.

I think the most important thing that will determine our future is how we will walk the balance between testing new players VS playing established (yet old players)...its balance between safety and discovery/regeneration. Regenration will come with a price and we should not be afraid to pay it, its momentary sacrifice for the sake of the future. We need to realize that in order to integrate new players we need to TAKE RISKS and that might mean loosing important games once and twice becasue of younger people that do not fit in who we will try-on, until we find the right fit, and we need to accept that as a reality becasue in order to discover and build new stars you have to give them the chance to shine in real tournaments and games with real stakes and pressure and not just friendlies and inconsequential games.

Thats why I was so upset that Hamdi is not getting any play.

why do u keep using Shikabala
even in his last run in the NT
he was still garbage!!!!
just as he is now!
maybe 1 or 2 good touches and some fast runs but thats it
i am sure we can find somebody else who can replace Abu Treika and is better than shikabala

and i thought shikabala was a attacking CM playing behind the strikers
you have him almost as a full wing!

Shikabala can play in left flank and behind the strikers.

You seem to hate him and subjective about him. Shikabala is still unexperienced, it's easy to bash him on 2,3 games, the guy never had real chances with our NT, just 2 games per year, so how could you judge him? He still needs time to play, get experience and confidence.
We don't have players with his profile (left footed offensive midfielder, quick, physical), a player like him has great potential, but we have to use it smartly.

We played 3 games and won 3 games as we alays do in African Cups BUT we cant qualify for WC no matter who we have in the team.

W beat Benin, Mozembeque and Nigeria our world cup group was a micky mouse group.

And dont get carried away either shehata is still rubbish, you just have to look at his team selections. We scored 2 goals vs Mozembique one was own goal, we scored 2 aganist benin one was luck the other just about a goal, HENCE! we will struggle vs zambia.

Change manager first then focus on players and then WC 2014

The Egyptian mindset now is integrate the newer more ready players with the older players who can still play. I see nothing wrong with this method and seems the most stable way of keeping the NT strong for years to come.

Tunisia has taken the route of a complete overhaul of their NT and look how far it has set them back. Even in the future they've been set back a couple of years due to this decision.

My biggest fear in the future is not how we will score goals, because it seems our offense isn't taking a step back, it's how our defense and the goalie question will be answered. Even the midfield seems to be in good hands with Shika, Abd Rabou and Muhammadi.

I wonder how this clown Mido feels now?

14-goals in this tournament and maybe our 2nd-straight ACN title without him on the team.

This guy should fly back to Cairo on February 1st, shine Shehata's feet and kiss the ground the man walks on.

Hassan Shehata > Piece of garbage Ahmed Hossam 'Mido'

We should only get stronger after the ACN is over.

-Abdel Shafy is going to be our long-term replacement at LB. I think that he might be better than Moawed now (Moawed is still a good player).

-Geddo is the newest Egyptian superstar

-Zidan has shown that he deserves to be a permanent fixture in our starting XI

-Muhammadi is a great asset to have due to his speed and tendency to stay out wide

Concerns:
-CF...Right now we only have Meteab and Zaki
-CDM...Abd Rabo and Ghaly played well today but they were a bit shaky in this tournament
-CB...Gomaa is still a great defender but he wont be around forever...we need someone to replace him soon and we need to find another fulltime CB (Fathallah or someone else)
